Fashion and Teens - Week Four

I am now in my in my fourth and final week of researching and I went back to the internet to get some research that I believe helped me answer my essential question "Should fashion play such am important role in teens life". While doing my research I came across this article and it was written by a women name Susan Antonelli. She talks from an mother and grandmother point of view about fashion and how much teens spend on it this is what attracted me to her article.

Susan Antonelli talks about the high fashion she sees when she picks her granddaughters up from school. She say she see teenagers with Louis
Vuitton, Coach, and Fendi bags. Susan also goes on and talks about how her granddaughters wear North Face jackets, Uggs boots, and Hollister shirts or skirt. Susan feels that most of her granddaughters outfits cost more than hers. Another brand she talks about is Abercrombie & Fitch, she states "Abercrombie & Fitch is very important. The shirts have to have the Moose on the chest. If you've ventured into Abercrombie stores you are familiar with the outrageous prices. A simple little shirt can run you $40.00. Shopping for my grand daughters is crazy expensive I've always been frugal and very practical so although I will pick up a gift certificate from stores they shop at for the girls for Birthdays or Christmas I personally would never just put together a wardrobe for them there."

Reflection On Depression

When the word depression comes to me I automatically think what is going to happen next in your life. Depression is something that needs to be taking care of. Nobody should have to deal with this. Everyone lives are not perfect but when something happens or goes wrong it needs to be fixed somehow.

What I learned from depression is that anyone can have depression. That depression is something that is painful to go through. Depression doesn't just come and go, it comes and stays for awhile. Medications are available for depression but most don't know that there is medications out there. The only way you will know is if you ask. Sometimes by even asking you may not know. A lot of people won't tell you that they are depressed. When you be around people and they act different then their usual self, you may want to consider talking and asking them questions. When people are depressed it is good to talk to them and let them get their feelings out. By showing depressed people that you care they will feel better about themselves. Things that I wanted to know I learned about. I learned why people become depressed. They don't feel good about themselves or they just have to much on there mind. Every second of the day they are busy no time to themselves to just sit and relax. Depression is genetic. If people in your family were diagnosed with depression you might be next inline to be diagnosed. Depression can happen at any age more common in people between the ages of 18-29, these people are at greater risk than older people over the age of 60.

I had great success on my research project. All of my research questions were answered. They were answered with answers that I wouldn't even think about. "How does one Escape Depression ?" was my question. My question was answered. Some may think they know everything about depression but do they really? By me taking the time to research the information, I found a lot on depression. When a person with depression comes to me and says "I am depressed" or "I think I'm depressed," I'm going to help them out. Being depressed is no joke. People that are depressed need help. You can't just blow people off who are depressed. Blowing them off is probably the worse thing you could for a depressed person. Now I am aware of symptoms and what people are thinking about. So if I see the symptoms occur I know not to avoid a person but to make them feel good about themselves.

After reading about depression and gathering information about depression I have learned quit a lot. Things I should be aware about, I now know what they are. Depression may seem like a boring topic but when you do a lot of research and you know people that go through this, you start to become curious. You ask yourself the unthinkable. If you can put yourself in someones shoes who is depressed wouldn't you want help? Even some medication? Or maybe just someone to talk to? So think about it what would you want?

Is it better to be a Doctor or Nurse Practitioner?

Yesterday I went to the Womens Health Center at Childrens Hospitial. This time I talked to another GYN/OB named Doctor Nezzi. She stated when I asked her "Is it better to be a Nurse Practitioner or a Doctor?" that its clearly a NP. I asked why and she quote " The NP's have a better lifestyle, make good pay and dont have to go to school as long as she did.". She also said she's at work most of the time and dont get a chance to really relax. I told her I was not sure which one to become and then she told me to go for it and follow my heart.

Fashion and Teens- Week three

I am now in my third week of research, I didn't really do any research this week. This week I decide to ask myself one of my foundation question "How does fashion affect you". For the last three weeks I asked everyone else input on fashion in the teenage world but I skipped myself. I had to ask myself this question, this is the question that stuck out at me the most and I knew that I would be able to talk about it with emphasis.

I feel as if fashion affect me in many ways one of the ways is that it makes me broke. When I buy things at that moment money don't matter but when I leave the store and get home and calculate sometimes I realize that I over spent. I always say that I buy clothes and stay up with fashion because I look at it as a hobby, but deep down inside I think I do it just to keep up with the "Jones". Since I was younger my mother kept me well dressed we stayed going to he mall, I think that is what started me to let fashion have this type of affect on me. When it comes to fashion I made up this motto for me "Feel Good Gotta Look Good" this motto basically describe me and he impact of fashion in my life.

Pain in Life

As I sit down and think about how many people are really depressed in the world today, it hurts to know that there is people really depressed out there. I think why don't they get help? Why don't they want to be out of something that doesn't have to happen to them? A lot of questions I ask myself about this topic.

Depression starts in so many different ways. From not having enough sleep to your house burning down. Not saying to avoid things you enjoy doing but relax and have some fun. I'm reading an article called Escaping Depression/Getting Out of depression, which gives me a lot of useful information on depression. By me reading this womans story I can understand depression better. As she tells her story I feel like I am a friend to her, because of all the detail she gives. Her brain was really confused. Instead of grabbing a fork, she would grab a spoon, not on purpose but becuase that was what her brain told her to do. This makes it seem like what really causes depression? How do you mess up on getting spoon over a fork?

Reading her story gave me good information on how to get out of depression. From doing all the things that you do to minimize them. You need time to yourself, time to relax. Doing so much activity makes you depressed. Less activity the less you have to wory about.(Escaping Depression/Getting Out of Depression)

By asking ones you love to help you out can help your depression. Sometimes you just need someone to talk to. Getting out your feelings can relieve some depression.

Is It better to be a Doctor or Nurse Practitioner?

There was an interview I did on a GYN/OB doctor at the womens health department at Childrens Hopitial a week a go. I asked her some basic questions then I asked her the real questions I wanted to know in order for me and the other people out there to suceed as she once did. Questins like...

Crystalyn: How long have you been a doctor?

Doctor Schillen: Almost 6 years in September.

Crystalyn: Do you like your job?

Doctor Schillen: I like my job but hate it at times.

Crystalyn: Why do you hate your job at times?

Doctor Schillen: Because it interfear in my everyday life at times. I dont like to really take vacations because I be to peranoed that one of my patients will have there babies and I wont there for them like Im suppose.

Crystalyn: Do you love your patients?

Doctor Schillen: Sometimes the patients are nice and like to open up to you but then some and ignorant and dont even want to show up for appointents and dont care about themselves or there babies at all.

Crystalyn: What are your salaries looking like a year?

Doctor Schillen: I've been a Doctor for d*** there 6 years and im doing great making 200,000 a year.

Is It better to be a Doctor or Nurse Practitioner?

Doctors are a very important part of life. When your weak or dieing they know exactly what to say and how to say it. They also know what to do and know whats more helpful. Nurse practitioners understand you more and make you feel as if there a regular person your talking to and listen to your business but also keep it confedental. I have a GYN that talks to me and let me know how my body is doing. I also have a NP that tells me what I need to stop doing and reminds me to always be safe and use protection but, the funny thing is I never get tierd of hearing it. Thats something I can see myself doing, telling the young ladies to be safe or save them selfs. But then again cant you do the same as being a Doctor?

Fashion and Teens- Week two

I am now in my second week of research I am still not close to getting the answer to my essential question " Should fashion play such an important role in teens life". During this week I been on the Internet researching, trying to find the answers to my foundation questions. This week I learned how to get accurate information from the Internet, by using certain words that narrow down my search to what I am mainly searching for. Using these new tools I came across this interesting article that talked about how teenagers express there personalities and one of the most effective forms of self-expression is through there clothes. Then it went on to how teen fashion is a huge part of the fashion industry because there are so many choices when it comes to teen fashion. Picking a specific style of ten fashion is nearly impossible. After all there are so many different styles of clothing out there that can be used to reflect different styles of personalities. I agreed with this article alot it kind off made me understand the way us teenagers look at fashion from another point of view

Is it better to be a Doctor or Nurse Practitioner?

Doctors have a lot of respect for there carriers and so do Nurse Practitioners. But the NP's don't have as much knowledge as doctors unfortunately. Theres many reasons why you need to decide in a couple months what's the best carrier for you. In this case you should already know who, what, when where, how and why your going for. You cant be so sure if your choice is what you really want to do in college. The reason being is you might just be wasting your time and money. People around my age just leaving High School dont have it like that and who really just want to waste money. If anything young people like myself want to own more and more of it. And college is where the money is...

Difficulties with Depression

What do you think when someone tells you " I am depressed? " I think to myself how and why are the first things I ask myself. What happened in your life that made you become depressed. Depression is no joke. I worry when some one tells me that they are feeling depessed especially a pregnant woman.

Postpartum depression is what it's called when women are pregnant. They go through this stage not being themselves. They become very anger, irritable , fatigue, like doesn't even matter to them anymore, and etc... Postpatum depression comes aftter "baby blues," but the "baby blues" might not always happen. I wonder if having a baby is right for me if difficulties like ths may occur.

I have read that depression is a serious illness. It affects many parts of the body. The littlest thing can make you depressed. All ages can become depressed and most don't even recognize that they are depressed. Approximately 19million Americans suffer from depression. This is a large amount of people to be depressed. I don't really hear a lot of people saying they are depressed, but maybe they just don't want to tell people that they are depressed. They may feel that people will laugh or crack jokes on what they are going through. Depression is no joke from what I have read so far. Feeling this way is probably a horrible feeling. From what I understand I have never went through this stage of depressin, but I know people who have.

People that are younger are at a higher risk of becoming depressed , between the ages of 18-29 , people that are over 60 are at a lower risk. 2% of people over the age of 65 suffer from depression because of heart disease, stroke, cancer and diabetes. Older people that suffer from this have a hard time to go through. They are already put away in nursing homes were they feel nobody cares about them anymore so being depressed just makes it even worse on them.(baby blues)

Their is treatment for this disease but many lack to retrieve the medications. Why do people fail to get the medication when it's out there? They only go to a family doctor who doesn't really deal with this type of medications stated in the World Almanac and Book of facts. Wondering to myself after I read this, What good is your family doctor if he doesn't really deal with depression cases and give you the neccessary treatment?

How do you know if your depressed ?

I sit at home and wonder to myself am I one of the millions that are depressed ? Sometimes I really wonder. I'm reading this book called " Black Pain" Real Talk For When There's Nowhere to go but up by Terrie M Williams, this is one of the reasons why I came up with the topic of depression. The book is about black people on their situations in life that make them depressed, why they are depressed and etc...

In the first few pages it gave reasons why people are depressed. I thought to myself that could be me. It states " If you have 5 of the 9 symptoms for 2 weeks, for most of the time, allday everyday and it changes the way you function you are depressed. Is it really true if you have the symptons you are depessed?

Symptoms include: reduce level of interest or pleasure in most or all activities, loss or gain weight, difficulty falling or staying asleep, your behavior is agitated or slowed down, fatigued or lack of energy, thoughs of worthless or extreme guilt, yor ability to think, concentrate, or make decisions is reduced, thoughts of death or suicide, and depressed moods.

In the book it is stated that black females depression is worse than black males. Approximately two-thirds of adult black women are overweight and a third of black women are obese. To me this is some interesting information. I wonder yo myself if this could happen to me because I am 50% black. A statistic that was was blackwomenshealth.com stated that african american women are 50% higher to be depressed than white women. This is something I didn't know. I really wouldn't understand why the color of your skin even your heritige would make you become a person with depression. That intrest me a lot. Me being black and white I wonder were I would fall in. Right now I feel like this topic is interesting me a lot more than before because of he interesting information that I have found. So long for now...

Is it better to be a Doctor or a Nurse Practitioner?

To start my search, I decided to Google "Nurse Practitioner Salary" to see if their salaries were similar to that of a doctor.I found that there actually are indeed doctors that make the same as Nurse Practitioners. I found my information from the web that showed many charts of the NP's salaries. And then I found that some of NP's make 80,000 a year and some of doctors make the same but doctor really make over 100,000 a year. Money is definently a focus that got me interested in this subject Im writing on. But the question is will I be happy just having alot of money. Im not sure if my perspectives are right to become a doctor reason being being a doctor is hard work but NP's dont have to work as hard. Should a person be able to allow themselves to be lazy or am I really not lazy for being so protected of my choices.

There's so many questions to ask but so little time to get answers.

Fashion and Teens - Week One

As I started my search I knew there were a few basic questions I needed to answer. One of my questions that I had ask was "How much money do you spend on fashion in a month". I got the answer to this question from most of my classmates and friends. When I ask them the question many of them didn't know off hand, so i got a calculator and a piece of paper and we added everything up. More than half of the people I did this with price was more than $250.00. After everyone saw how much they spend on fashion a month they started to get second thoughts on is staying up with fashion worth as much as we pay. After I calculated everyone else prices I did my own and my price was $400.00. When i start to analyze my situation i realize that i spend as much money some people spend on rent on fashion. I was kind of surprise at how much money I spend to stay up with fashion. I still don't know why teens like myself let fashion play a huge role in there lives but I think that I am going to get a little closer to the answer in this next month.

Is it better to be a Doctor or Nurse Practitioner?

In life with certain themes sometimes you have to play it safe. In this issue theres a determination in these careers because you have to be able to know what you can handle. So in this case I have researched what would be better. Including the salaries and info from my reseach on google i have found that some doctors and Nurse Practitioner make the same amount. But I have also read in a magazine called the PEOPLE actually wish they didnt become a doctor but just a Nurse Practitioner because they dont have a normal life. The Doctor was not able to have children or a family or even get married because she had to dedicate her life and time to her job of being a Doctor. I didnt expect to actually read something like. I was only expecting to read how much they like it, how great the money was and also how well they are respected!!

Is it better to be a Doctor or Nurse Practitioner?

In life you go threw many experiences day by day. And every experience you have brings you closer to getting to know yourself and what you want to actually become in life.Theres many careers and jobs out there to fit a persons perpective. But theres only one Career that I adore and I have'nt even tried it yet. Me knowing myself so well I can feel how much I would want to become a Doctor or Nurse Practitioner. The question is which one would I be able to handle and actually fit my perpective's and standards.

I started to want to become a nurse when my mom graduated from school to be a LPN. I felt like she didnt make enough money for me so I figured to become someting higher, yes thats right a Nurse Practitioner. I loved when my NP always talked to me about my body and tell whats not healthy and what is and always give me good advice so thats when I just wanted to do something like that.

Which career would better fit you in life?

Which career is more safe?

Which career gives you the most respect?

Which career shows you the most reality?

Which career is most common?
I started my research on depression with my first question What are the causes of depression? From this website I learned that depression runs in families that can be inherited. It comes generation after generation, but also can occur with no family history of depression. Depression can be caused from a death, illnes, relationships, financial problems, or a major change in life that is unexpected. Your living enviroment and how you live can cause you to become in a depressive stage. Women are twice as much as men to become depressd. A woman that is pregnant and is stressing during her pregnancy can increase her baby to be depressive when the child is an adult
(Panzarino).

There isn't just one single cause for depression. Depression may either be genetic, biochemical, enviromental, and psychological facors. In found research, this illness is a disorder of the brain. In MRI (Magnetic resonance imaging) test, people that are diagnosed with depression have brain scans different from people who are not depressed. The brain is esponsibe for moods, the way you think, when your sleeping, your appetite and your behavior. Neurotransmitter, which chemicals that the brain cells use to communicate, appear to be out of balance. Images found can not reveal why depression is caused.
Different types of depression can run in families that have had a history of depression. It also can happen to people without family history of depression. Researchers have indicated that depression
